Tobacco & Rum
Some fragrances feel like they've always belonged.
When I first started ambustum, I had no idea which fragrances people would respond to most. Like most small businesses, you begin with a few instincts and hope you're heading in the right direction.
Over time, a pattern started to emerge.
Again and again, people were drawn towards the richer, moodier fragrances. Woods, amber, tobacco and spices consistently became some of the best loved candles in the collection.
So when I began planning Small Batch, I knew there had to be one fragrance that felt at home alongside them.
That's why 005 exists.

What does it smell like?
The first thing that surprises most people is the freshness.
The citrus notes arrive before anything else, lifting the fragrance with grapefruit, bergamot and lime. Alongside them, the rum adds warmth rather than sweetness, giving the opening a richness that immediately feels inviting.
As 005 develops, clove, patchouli and labdanum begin to emerge, gradually introducing more depth without ever becoming overpowering. The transition feels natural, almost as though the fragrance settles into the room rather than announcing itself.
Eventually, the tobacco, leather, moss and amber take over.
It's worth saying that this isn't the smell of cigarette smoke. The tobacco is smooth, dry and refined, adding warmth and character rather than heaviness. Combined with the leather and amber, it creates a fragrance that's comforting, sophisticated and incredibly easy to live with.
I often think the best candles don't dominate a room.
They simply change how the room feels.
For me, 005 does exactly that.
Why I chose 005
Some fragrances find their place because they introduce something new.
005 earned its place because it reflects what so many ambustum customers already enjoy.
Over the years I've noticed that whenever I introduce a richer, more atmospheric fragrance, it tends to find its audience very quickly. It's become a style that's closely associated with the brand, and it felt right that this collection should acknowledge that.
At the same time, I didn't want to simply repeat something I'd already made. I wanted a fragrance that felt familiar while still bringing something of its own.
That's exactly what I found here.
It has the warmth and depth that many of you already know from ambustum, but with a freshness that gives it its own identity. It doesn't compete with the permanent collection. It sits comfortably alongside it.
About ambustum Small Batch
Small Batch gives me the freedom to explore fragrances that sit outside the permanent collection.
Sometimes that's because I've always wanted to work with a particular fragrance family. Sometimes it's because a test candle refuses to be ignored. Every numbered release is chosen because, after weeks of testing, I genuinely believe it deserves a place in the collection.
Each candle is hand poured in small batches and produced in limited quantities. Some numbers may return in future collections, while others will remain unique to a single year.
That's what I enjoy most about Small Batch. Every collection captures a moment in time, and every number tells part of the story.
Candle Care
Candle Care
For the best performance, trim the wick to 5 millimetres after every use.
The wick should always look short and upright for a clean burn. Allow the wax to fully melt to the edge of the glass before extinguishing to prevent tunnelling.
*Please note, as every candle is hand-poured there may be slight variations in the finished product.
